Happy 100th Birthday Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv has always held a special place in my heart. Ask anyone and they will certainly tell you how much fun Tel Aviv is. The beach, the nightlife, the people – everything here is vibrant and exciting. Spending the last two months of my program living in Tel Aviv has definitely made my experience in Israel come full circle. I began my Tel Aviv life with a bang by attending the Tel Aviv Centennial Opening Event at Rabin Square. I had a blast celebrating with thousands of other Tel Avivians in honor of Tel Aviv’s 100th Birthday, in additional to other events throughout 2009. Going to the beach on the Tayelet and dancing the night away certainly didn’t hurt either. But still being in the volunteer mindset after eight months on Project OTZMA – working in cities such as Be’er Shiva, Nazareth Illit, Kiryat Malachi, Netivot and all the fun in Tel Aviv certainly didn’t feel as meaningful. I was left wanting to do more for the city for its 100th Birthday and to find a way to help my friends living outside of Israel celebrate in a meaningful way as well. This led to a discussion with Rachael, my fellow OTZMA intern here at Jgooders, about what we could do to bring the Tel Aviv Centennial more in line with our previous experiences volunteering for Israel.

During our internship, Rachael and I had the task of coming up with new campaign ideas for JGooders. During one of these brainstorming sessions, we were inspired by all the events that the Tel Aviv Foundation has planned to celebrate Tel Aviv’s 100 years. Which made us think: What can we do here at Jgooders to celebrate? And thus the Tel Aviv 100 Campaign was born. Over the next month, JGooders will be featuring over twenty different Tel Aviv themed projects that are either located in Tel Aviv-Yafo or serve the Tel Aviv-Yafo population. For the first 100 donors who give to a JGooders project of their choice, they will be entered to win one of three amazing Tel Aviv themed prizes. And yes, they are pretty unique gifts! Join us in celebrating Tel Aviv’s vibrant 100 years – who needs to choose between the beach or doing good…now you can do both!
