JGooders climate change posting for Blog Action Day

That Climate Change is clearly of global concern is apparent from the wide range of initiatives taking place this month around the world.

This cause was chosen to be discussed and promoted by over 6,000 bloggers (and counting) who are taking part today in Blog Action Day. In honor of this great social action initiative, we are dedicating today’s blog post to Jewish organizations responding to climate change.

The Jewish Climate Change Campaign presents a framework for the Jewish community to play their part, as their websites states, their initiative is, “a call to action, a call to demonstrate that the Jewish people can help light the way to more sustainable by  living.”

Lead by Hazon and Jewish Climate Initiative, the founding partners include a number of organizations whose projects feature on JGooders, such as Canfei Nesharim, the Heschel Center for Environmental Learning and Leadership and Sviva Israel (whose director wrote a guest post on Sukkot, Tikkun Olam and Climate Change for our blog last week).

How can you get involved?

The site has many ideas and resources to get you started, but the first step is to sign a pledge to integrate education, action and advocacy in our homes and community. Click here to sign the pledge.

The Jewish Climate Change Campaign is being launched to coincide with Jewish Social Action Month (JSAM), starting October 19th with the beginning of the Jewish month of CheshvanJSAM will also include lots of environmental events in the US, UK, Israel and around the world, among other forms of social action.

We’ll leave the last word to the Jewish Climate Change authors, “We are heirs to a tradition that believes that learning and discussion must lead to action. Read. Think about what we’ve written. Disagree. Strengthen what is here – but most of all, act. Be a link in the chain of bringing these words to fruition and of adding the next chapter in the Jewish people’s contribution to the world.”

What could be  more appropriate for a Blog Action Day, than a call to put the millions of words that will be written in cyberspace around the world today, to good purpose?  Let’s gain inspiration from the thousands of great ideas out there to commit to real acts that will make a difference.
