Marking International Women’s Day
Monday, March 8th, 2010 | posted by
Here at JGooders (a company founded by two women as it happens) we wanted to take a few minutes and mark March 8, 2010 with others around the world as International Women’s Day. Dating back to 1911, this was a day, organized originally by International Conference of Working Women and Clara Zetkin was intended to be global day of fighting for women’s rights. Today, with ceremonies and activities around the world, International Women’s Day is both a celebratory occasion marking the tremendous advances women have made over the last 100 years – but also an opportunity to look at the issues of ongoing inequality and violence that unfortunately linger in many place – and take action to change the situation.
Here are just some of the amazing projects you can support to promote, care for, and strengthen the role of women in our society. Take a few minutes to read about some of them and help make a difference!
Financial Literacy for Women and Girls (Yedid: The Association for Community Empowerment)
Emotional Counseling for Women in Need (Counseling Center for Women)
The Elga Stulman Women’s Institute for Jewish Studies (Oranim College)
Jumpstart Employment Program for Young Women (Israel Women’s Network)
Shelter for Domestic Violence Victims, Haifa (Women’s Crisis Shelter)
Kama Be`er: holistic religious education and community service for young women (The Yerucham Association in Memory of Ruth Tal)
Challenging Career Opportunity for Girls at Risk (Ulpanat Dolev)

Happy International Women’s Day!
Alot of people don’t realise that the majority of people hungry around the world are women… and yet these women produce 60-80% of the food! The answer to hunger, I really believe lies with women. You can send a message of solidarity to women across the world for International Women’s Day at http://www.wfp.org/women
